Inspiring the next generation of scientists
I am A Scientist STEM is a FREE science outreach program to Hawaii’s public schools offered by the Division of Natural Sciences & Mathematics at Chaminade University. Our researchers, faculty, post docs, graduate and undergraduate students travel to Hawaii’s Elementary Schools to promote S.T.E.M. education. I am a Scientist STEM at Chaminade University
Methodology
The I am A Scientist curriculum inspires and excites students by engaging their curiosity and provides them with the scientific tools to discover the world around them. The curriculum supports the Hawaii Department of Education’s Common Core and HCPS III standards. The programs are conducted in the classroom and during the school day, ensuring that every student is able to experience real science.
Real Science, Real Scientists
Students use the Scientific Method to conduct experiments using modern biotech equipment, supplies and technology used in real laboratories under the guidance of experienced scientists. While the program is not designed for entertainment, the hands-on authentic experiments are exciting, fun, and memorable!
Outcome
The inquiry based curriculum enables students to discover the everyday relevance of science and math in their life that is meaningful to them. Their interaction with professionals in the scientific community encourages them to continue their education and to think about careers in the sciences.
